Have been thinking about a 38-55 RB from Pedersoli .The Sporting Rifle comes with a 28 inch round  barrel and weights 8.6 lbs . The 38-55 is a Excellent round for Hunting or plinking . Just wondering if any one has one and what they think about  these rifles .

No, but I wish I did.

Love those RBs and always thought the 38-55 would be a neat midrange cartridge.

Rowdy, let me know if your bringing one. I'm leaving in the morning. I'll bring the ammo I got at the the convention.   Jed

I haven't shot a 38-55, but have a tad of experience with two of my Dad's RB's in .43 Spanish. One was a rifle, the other a carbine.
I was only able to try a few rounds of smokeless (all he had prepared).....Trailboss I believe....anyway, the loads were very nice for offhand and plinking & we were getting lots of hits offhand at around 100 yds on my steel plates (roughly 11" x 14")....this was another of the rifles my son was able to shoot during our last outing.

My Marlin '93 in .38-55 just got back to me from the gunsmith.  It needed a new bore, and he wound up putting on a "new" barrel (1890's vintage BP pipe).  In my opinion, it makes a dandy plinking, starter, or hunting round.  Load it with starter loads of Trail Boss for the most recoil sensitive, or supe it up within published maximums and it still isn't all that bad then fill it with black and enjoy the show  ;).  I'm not going to do that in the BP barrel BTW.  By mid-range what do you mean.  It has a excellent accuracy potential which is why it's such a popular Schutzen round, but lacks the powder to be a competitive BPCR choice.  Some shooter consider 500m rams to be "midrange."  I haven't done extensive shooting with it yet, but I would have to say 300 to 400m would be a reasonable range to stretch the old Ballard round out to.
