I just got a book written by our very own Dr. Bob (Dorian) about diseases and their treatment during the Mexican War. This was in 1846-1848. Judging by what I read I'd take my chances on just about anything but the medicines, instruments, and techniques used in those days. From
this thread I'd add the transportation of injured and ill into that list.
I figure if I'd been born in the 1840s instead of the 1940s I would have died when I was about six from tonsillitis or a couple of year later from ear infection sor kid injuries
