Tyler Texas Peacemakers Shoot This Saturday
« on: April 15, 2010, 02:14:31 PM »
Just a friendly reminder to everyone that we'll be shooting our monthly match this coming Saturday. Registration begins at 9:00AM with Safety Meeting at 9:15AM, followed by shooting beginning at 9:30AM. Bring a snack and some drinks, as we haven't started feeding folks yet at our NCOWS matches. Hope to see you all in Texas. Kflach, we're hoping you can make it and Brian agreed with me on the matter we discussed -- so come on.  :D

A fella that plans to shoot with you called me and said that he was told  ???  that NCOWS only allowed 45 Colt and 44-40s and them with only black powder ???  This of course is nonsense.  I told him that his 38s were fine as were is old style Ruger Vaqueros and Marlin rifle.  He was also told that the above calibers were only okay with black powder loads.  :( I don't know where this mis-information comes from but this type of thing does more to hurt our organization than anything else.  He doesn't have a computer and couldn't check on line and read the Tally Book.

Please help out the new prospects and don't spread these type of things.

Will,

If you can, try to find out who this gentleman spoke with.  I know the Peacemakers' leadership and they are all very knowledgeable about NCOWS regulations.  I doubt it was any of the executive committee there that said this.

If we can figure out who delt this misinformation, I will personally help the individual(s) get a copy of the Tallybook with highlighted comments.

As NCOWS grows here in Texas, we need to keep this type of mythology and misinformation in check.

Absolutely right, Pancho. And I too would be very surprised if it came from anyone in leadership.

Sadly, NCOWS has had to battle this kind of misinformation for most of its existance. Funny part is that "everybody" has heard this stuff, but very few ever seem to be able to remember where they heard it.

Like it's floating on the wind or something.....   :-\

Equally sad is that, when traceable, it usually comes from someone who knows absolutely nothing about NCOWS and is simply repeating what they "heard" someone else say .....somewhere......sometime ago......

Well, as Pancho said, it didn't come from Oklahoma Tom, Johnson Barr or me. I imagine it came from a "well-intentioned" SASS shooter who may have been irked. Who knows?  Anyway we had a great shoot, though attendance was low - ten shooters. Still a fun time for all there. And just to stir the pot, I shot my Spencer, and twice shot the stages loading all rounds over the top. I may actually be faster that way. Go figure. And you know what, the sun didn't fall, the birds still flew, and when I woke up this morning the world was still screwed up! Which all goes to prove that shooting single-shot rifles in NCOWS works just fine. Imagine!LOL! :)

Clint, I knew it didn't come from you, in fact I told him to check with you if he had any questions because you would give him the truth.

I don't think he made it up since he went through all the trouble to contact me.  The NCOWS vonage phone rings on my wife's cell phone and she usually just takes a message and passes it on to me, which she did.  I called from work (we work together) on my cell and lost the call halfway through.  He called me back and we again got disconnected before we finished and again reconnected.  So after all that I think he was fairly serious ;)

Although I'm not the Judge to decide these things I am happy to do what I can.  I am glad you guys had a great shoot.  I sure wish I could have been there.
