Ammo question
« on: June 02, 2005, 04:51:15 PM »
While at my local shooting range I noticed that they had .38 cal Winchester loads on sale for $7.99 for 50.  I asked the man at the range counter about them and he suggested that the Federal loads they had were regularly priced at $7.99.  Since the Federal's were not on sale, my 10% member discount applied and that made them cheaper.  He said that some folks don't like them since they use non-jacketed lead bullets.  I thought at once that this is exactly what I have been looking for for CAS.  158 Grain, non-jacketed, round nose.  I bought 2 boxes.  I know that these will be OK in my pistols (which I don't have yet), but now I am wondering if they will be safe in my rifle.  I attended a New Shooter Orientation a few weeks back and they were using flatnose bullets.  So my question is this; are the round-nose bullets safe when loaded in a lever action rifle.

I expect they'll be fine.

NO problem in a six-gun! ;D
Probably be fine in a rifle.
I have a few boxes of new Federal .38 @ 158 gr RN.
They appear "flat" enough to not have a stack-detonation.
How pointed are your RN's? ???

The round nose's are not pointed at all; in fact it looks like a couple of swipes with a file and they would be flat nose's.  I suspect they will be OK, I'll just check with a few shooters at a match before I use them.

Thanks for the info,

JR
