I have attached a page from the upcoming Rock Island gun auction. Note the Colt navy cartridge revolver presented to the Colt paymaster during the Civil War. I have never heard of this revolver's existance. Beautiful isn't she?

Shelton was paymaster during the Civil War, but that revolver was built in the 1870's!

I don't think theyre misrepresenting the gun the wording is just off.

That's what I thought, I wasn't aware of any experimental Colt cartridge revolvers that early.

That said, it is a great looking revolver.

There probably were experimental conversions built by Colt during the War.....Like the Thuer and the Snider and various pin fire and needlefire systems.
But, The revolver in question is a Richards Mason 1861 Navy Model that was probably built about 1875 when the bulk of Navy revolvers were converted.
