« on: May 17, 2008, 08:14:20 PM »
Hi fellas,

Anybody out there own a '73 Winchester by Uberti in 32? How does it cycle and is it an accurate shooter? Any experiences with this rifle and caliber?

Many thanks,

X Horse Pen

I have a 1866 Uberti in .32 wcf.  After some starting pains, it settled down.  I purchased it just as the loading gate problem started.  It took a while, but I finally figured out what was happening even after the new improved gate was put on, cartridges were slipping past the loading gate.  Uberti useds a .38 carrier, which gives the cartridge a lot of wiggle room.  That along with a circular cut in the rear of the elevator, allowed cartridges to slip behind the loading gate.  I finally filled in the opposite side from the loading gate with JB Weld, that fixed tha problem.  Another item to consider, Uberti is very fussy about the location of the shoulder on the brass.  The sizing dies I tried set the shoulder too far forward and the cartridge either wouldn't chamber or would jam in the chamber.  The fix was to grind the bottom off the sizing die, until the shoulder location matched new brass.  Another thing is that everyone's brass is different lengths, I stayed with Remington brass.

I enjoy shooting the .32's, since my shoulder surgery, the .32 wcf is plenty accurate and will hit with more authority than a wimpy loaded .38.  I shoot 18 gr of 777 with a 115 gr. bullet.

In my old Marlin, I once fired 150 rounds of .32 wcf loaded with 777 and it dinged every time.  Here is the bullet I use in .32 wcf and .32 H&R.
