Need Advice on what to buy?

Got my new tandy flyer, and thought I would get a few things I need!
First question: What little book to by:Stohlman step by step, Pictorial Carving,The Leather Craft Handbook,or Basic Leatherwork, Depending on what i buy, if I buy a$7.99 book then that is it, but if I buy the cheaper ones i can buy 3-4?
Going to buy a few stamps THEY ARE ON SALE $3.99 same price as ebay used!!!
Has anyone used Artificial Sinew???

I would be great full for some help

I tried artificial sinew a few times, I prefer thread now.

Artificial sinew is pretty much waxed dental floss.  I would stick with thread/cord.

S.S. & Dr.Bob, Thanks for the advice on the sinew, i just saw that they had a sale on it, i want 5 chord linen but i don't want to spend $50.00, so far i havn't found it in a smaller size but i bet I do today!

Still was hopeing some one would give me a clue on what book to buy! I wished that someone that had a Cam Recorder that uses the DVD, would film them carving a holster and let me pay them for it. I been looking, and $45.00 is about as cheap as i can find a DVD on carving, I would be great full if someone does have some suggestions.

A good book on carving for beginners is the Al Stohlman "Craftool Tech-Tips"  Tandy #66056-00.  I am quite sure the other pards would agree that you should start off with something less complicated then then progress to the more intermediate and advanced techniques.

Outrider is spot on. That is the book to get if you want to learn to carve. From there it just takes practice, practice, practice. I don't think you'll get anything out of a video that you wouldn't get by just doing. I know that's the way I learned, and I'll bet I'm not alone.

This is the best advice you can get. When I was first starting out, there weren't any leather scraps lying around because I'd use all of them for practicing with my swivel knife so I could do graceful curves and follow lines without drifting off.

     I agree on whats been said , I like the book , because it's easier to go back and look at or read again , I don't always get it the first time, so with a lot of practice and the book, or books to reference , it makes it a lot easier , Watching Chuck Burrows is another way to pound the technic into your mine as to how to move the hands , I watch his dvd over and over , and see or hear something new everytime , Plus Chuck is good company in the shop...

I got to take the 2 girls to get new swimming suites. They have had such a crappy life that with us taking care of them i want to give those girls some happnest in there life, and since there is a Tandy store in Tulsa, I thought that I would take them and the wife to the big mall, I would hit the outdoor flea market untill the back plays out, and then go to the Tandy store and drougel If that is the book to buy, thats the book I am going to buy,  They got most of his books on sale, but not that one  , no need to buy a book that won't get me started right Only 1 stamp I am going to buy, I been buying most of my stamps on ebay if I get a deal on them And I make the ones that I can make. I sure can tell the diff between the new stamps and the USA stamps When I first started I got a basket weave stamp in that set I traded for, the other day I bought a 4 stamp set on ebay because i got lucky and got them at a great price, they all were USA and there was the same basket weave tool in the group, I compared the stamping of the new one and the USA one The USA sure were tooled better. i need some thread, I wished they had 5 chord linen thread un waxed, but they don't. Maybe I can find a sewing place there that will have what I want.
