Well guys, there are always things we will have no control over and yesterday was one of those. When you are told that a surgery is going to take 6+ hours and you are called to the confrence room in only 2, even Einstien can figure something is not right. Steve has had cancer of the esophagus and was treated with radiation and chemo. It did what it was suppose to do. Great until the doctor goes on to say they have found cancer on his liver.
So guys if it rains to the east of here it because of all the tears that were cried yesterday. He will be in the hospital 4-5 days. We will have consultations with several doctors today.
My son Christopher was here late yesterday and to make my day he puts his arm around me and says hey Mom we have some good things happening though, 1. Steve is still alive. 2. God has the answers and you already know His number. 3. Remember that just because we ask GOD for somethings, we don't always get them.

Kayleen,  God never puts us through something that we cannot (with His help) handle. Giving up is not an option so I will continue to seek His direction and pray that Steve and all of you will come through this with a greater love and understanding, not only of Him but of each other also. It is a great thing to see all of those on this wire who love you guys so much that they are willing to give up a part of their day to pray for you. Friends,
We have been home for the past 2 weeks and things are finally getting into a routine. For the most part life is back to whatever normal is going to be for and we go on from here. Steve's sister was here from Colorado. It is always nice to have family around.
Steve is doing fairly well, he still sleeps a lot but then radiation, chemo and surgery do that to your body. His spirits are fairly high and he has appreciated all of the calls and cards we get from everyone. Please feel fre to give him a call if you want.
319-240-8006  or drop a note @ 10657 Hwy #57, Ackley, Iowa 50601.
I stated before that this is one of the most difficult things I have ever had to do, but through all of the trials, Kelley and Shawn have gotten the two little girls they had back due to their mother having problems.(Pete these are the two that Joni took pictures of at convention ) It sounds as though these two may become a permanant part of their life and ours also. I tell folks that I am never sure how many grandchildren I have until I touch base with Kelley for the day. Over night we can add foster kids easily.
My heartfelt thank you to everyone for all of the prayers and support you have given us. We truly appreciate all of it.
Kayleen

Kayleen, thanks for the continued updates.   Steve is in my daily thoughts and prayers.  I have so many grand memories of
the National Shoots on his land.  Mostly we don't appreciate what we have until it's gone.

Kayleen,
My sincere best wishes for Steve's recovery. I'll keep you guys in my thoughts and prayers for sure.

This really hits home to me, since I had surgery for similar problems last year. My tissue was pre-cancerous, though and has reversed.

So, guys if you have frequent heartburn, acid refux, difficulty swallowing, etc. Per Kayleen's advice and mine, please see your doctor.
