Just a question Pard , why are trying to sight your gun at 5 feet or was that a typo, your shooting a fixed sited gun , so you need to pick a distance, that you want to shoot at POA & POI, I personally like 25 yards, then at all other distances you just have to make allowances as to how you aim your gun , like a twelve oclock hold or six oclock hold and anything up or down from these holdings , once you get the hang of this you will be OK and you will know where to aim your gun. I use to shoot in quick draw comp. and I used full house loads , some times I would have to draw and point my gun a good foot to a foot in a half below the target to to hit the target, after you have been shooting long enough ,you will automatically know where to hold your gun on target (IMHO)

There are so many variables in shooting , and especially with a hand gun , and I think that's why I like six shooters so much , if this gun is new , and new to you, you need  to dump a lot of rounds down range , just to get to know the gun , don't file the site , until you absolutely know for sure that you are happy with,
#1 the ammo you're using , are you going to load your own ? or buy commercial new ammo, ( make sure you are happy with it )
#2 the grain bullit you're using ( 165 gr. 200 gr. 220 gr. 230 gr. 250 gr.) you need to settle on one your happy with.
#3 the distance you want to shoot at the most ( 7 yd. 10 yd. 15 yd. 25 yd.)
#4 the GRIP you're useing, this is Very important, fine the grip that works best for you , and practice practice practice it , I have found this to be one thing that a lot of pards ,( at least if your new at this ), fall down on , and it is so important.
#5 Are you happy with the Grips , or are you going to replace them with something eles, ( do this before , ajusting the site )

So you can see there are so many variables to think about, and this just touches on some , there are like you say the lighting , is the sun bright , and reflecting on your gun , or is there enough lighting, can you see clearly your sites, which way is the wind blowing , or not blowing , are you shooting straight out or are you shooting a little down hill , or a little up hill , all these things need to be thought about , and is your gun in working order, once your used to this practice , it will become second nature, and you will know exactly what to do under any circumstance, (IMHO)  i'm not saying you don't already know these things, but I thought it would be good to post this for others , that may be haveing trouble too. So I hope this will be of some help Pard.  :D
