Monseur Northcutt -
Having perused the partlist and exploded diagrams, while I have not tried it,  it is my belief that the IAB centerfire breechblock will fit directly into the 1863 percussion model. However, the following issues still remain:
will the hammer line up correctly with the "firing pin assembly"?
how will one address "extraction" as the percussion model has no relief cut for the extractor?
will the centerfire breechblock fit up properly to the breech of the rifle, as the percussion model utilizes both the "floating breech  plate" and in some models the supposed "floating chamber" (although in some rifles the chamber is frozen in place).
lastly one will need to chamber the breech for a metalic cartridge, and these barrels are often not readily removable.

With these stumbling blocks I have decided to try to wring the best accuracy I can from my .54 IAB by careful choice of bullet, lube, and powder load.

good luck on your project
