Actually, that happens all the time. Someone puts up a new Colt Single Action for bid with "no reserve". Someone bids $200.00 and for some reason there are no other bids. No one is gonna sell a new Colt SAA for $200.00 so the seller can bid $1,200.00 right at the close of the bell, "buy" it himself and start over. Really irritating. I bid on one gun six or seven times and this happened over and over. Don't know what the guy expected, but the bids on several were a fair price. He must have thought the gun was worth a lot more than it really was. I also hate it when a gun is listed at starting bid $1,200.00 and the buy it now price is $1,200.00. If the person knows what they want and won't accept less, it shouldn't be on an auction sight. It should be on something like GunsAmerica or Gunlist.
