Hello NCOWS,

Still trying to get that "correct look." Suggestions and comments would be appreciated.

My thoughts exactly.

If you wade accross a couple of steams;

&/or

 wear the outfit for a few dusty windy days;

then you will get that lived in look and be near perfect.

Maybe some kind of haversack or possible's bag across the shoulder. Handy to carry odds 'n' ends of your kit. It will give you another item to put your personal touch as far as design or decoration.

The basics are right on,. . . .it looks too clean, maybe because the scouts were an individualistic bunch and had a tendancy to dress up all they owned and used with decorations of one sort or another, most Indian inspired. You've baked the cake, now you need to frost it.

Looks real good, Two Flints.

That is a great example of how different colors show up in black and white.
I would never had guessed that the shirt was purple.
I'm going to print out the pictures side by side for and example.

Looks good.

I was going to guess the purple, but that and red are the most popular color on that Scully Patriot shirt.

Sepi it like his avatar Books and compare.   I like the look although wonder about the shirt being a little bit to visible for someone who might not want to been seen.

I doubt if it comes in camouflage. :P ;D

You're stylin' Two Flints. I like the colors. As you wear it for awhile it will develop some character, especially those high-topped mocs.

Your outfit looks like a good start, I agree you look too clean.  Small question,what is the pouch on your cartridge belt for and do you ever wear any of your cowboy stuff away from the gun range?

There is an interesting and enlightening book of illustrations called "The American West in the Nineteenth Century" by John Grafton. It is comprised of illustrations originally found in Harpers Weekly, The Illustrated London News & Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper. It's a Dover book: ISBN 0-486-27304-0   $10.95  for those interested.

On pages 159, 161, and 165 are illustrations of various scouts. A commonality amongst them is comfortable looking clothing, neckerchiefs, fringed buckskin jackets, hunting knives and one in particular sports a wide C.W. carbine sling.

Thanks for sharing...
