Just finished the ejector rod housing and got it installed on my Richards project. This is the same gun that I had at the KVC shoot but was unfinished. Well, .... Put a pair of Gripmaker's (Larry Little) faux checkered ivory grips on her, by the way, her name is Matilda and I got her all dressed up for the National shoot this month...here are a couple of pics......

Nice Bill,  I am still jealous.  It looks very good.

Have fun with it at the Nationals.

Appreciate it fellas....

Jeff, It is .44 Colt the original caliber that these were chambered for (except that it is not rim fire), just about my favorite caliber.
The blue on this gun is just temporary until after the National shoot and then I'll re-blue it with a better quality blue, this was some Birchwood Casey bluing that I had left over and I didn't want to throw it away......

Jerry,
Are you and Marlan going to make it to the National shoot this year?? I haven't talked to Marlan recently, I figured he must be out doing training somewhere in the country.

I will not but I believe Marlan and his wife will be attending.  I hope you all will have a good time or I should say I know you all will have a good time.  I wish I was just to see that revolver.  I saw you using the other one on the KVC video.  That video really did look nice too.  You did a nice job on those also.

Rawhide...
Thanks....I did a pretty crappy job putting the finish on the grips...so I may take the finish off and re-do them this week. I used polyurethane instead of the recomended True Oil that GripMaker suggests.

WOW!  The only thing missing on it is "CABLE" on the handle....

That pistol is that nice....I saw Sellecks pistol from "Last Stand at Saber River" on display at the National Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City.  This pistol could be it's brother.

Really, really nice Bill. I know this is your hobby and you don't want to turn it into a business, but the way Kenny Howell is backed up - I would think that you would be a shoo-in to break into the movie supplier business. You would be unusual, a one stop shopping place for them. Clothing, leather, native, firearms. You would be a very desirable fella.

I am envious!! Sweet!! Bill, use some brown leather dye diluted with alcohol on the grips for an aged look. It worked on my set.

James....& all....
Naw...don't want to get into the hassle of all the paper work....so I do these as a fun thing.

Brent...I'm gonna try the leather dye, do you use regular off the shelf rubbing alcohol to dilute the dye? I've got some dark brown and medium brown saddle dye. I suppose you use the medium or natural to get the color? I don't want to give them too much of an aged look, maybe, two/three years.....at the most.

Well....got a beautiful cool day outside so I'm gonna go out and work on my horse barn....

  Howdy Pards!

I use Fiebings or Tandy's with rubbing alcohol to make "washes"  and then blend "medium brown" and "yellow" dye to get the range of "ivory" without being heavy-handed or 100+ year old antique.
Some lads I know use it full strength and then "take it down" with worn out 0000 steel wool.

I occassionally have uses model paints and a 000 or 0000 brush to "paint" in the slight feathery grain or even subsurface "cracks."

Mick,
That sounds like a good idea...gonna go take the grips of her and give it a try. Fiebings is what I use on my saddles.

Bill, as I expected, that is an exceptional piece of work!  Fiebing's is also the dye that I use.  Speaking of which, I'm getting ready to get some fake ivory to go on my nickle plated 1911, and I'm going to age them a bit to match the gun, so I will be doing the same thing here pretty soon...

As to the National Shoot, unfortunately, we won't be able to make it this year.  I was really holding out to the possibility of making it, but there is too much going on.  I'm going to try to make it a point to do something later in the year, however.....

Thanks for the nice and kind words.

I will miss seeing and talking to all.  But remember you have 2 of the 3 originating 'Originals Members' in attendances.  I'm also certain the category presentations and judging will go without a problem.  And   I predict (or I hope) that we will have additional members joining the category/class.

To all have a good time and lots of fun.  Enjoy that Banquet on Saturday.
