New NCOWs member - Connecticut
« on: April 25, 2007, 12:03:27 PM »
Just joined.  I am looking forward to this as I have an 18th Century re-enacting background but liked the idea of the Cowboy shooting...but still want my clothes and gear to be as authentic as possible.

Two Questions:

1)  Any other CT memebers out there?

2)  I use REM 1858's with R&D conversion cylinders and cut down barrels...are these NCOWS legal?  Can't find a definite ruling in
the by-laws...assuming I have looked in the right places.

Thanks!

Hey, Little Al. Welcome to NCOWS. Glad to have you in our camp.

Not sure right off about other CT members but we can check on that.

Yep, your 58 Remmies w/R&D cylinders are approved postols. No problem.

Hope to see you posting also over on the members-only forum. Contact Lone Gunman and he should be able to get you set up there.

Thanks.

Welcome to NCOWS Little Al, you will find many an 18th century guy who moves ahead 100 years every so often to enjoy the advancing frontier! I think many in WAS are recommitting to maintaining the joy of the shooting experience WITH historical authenticity.

If you end up being the only NCOWS fella in CT for awhile, don't worry. I was the only one in southeast MI until a year ago, then my friend Monteray Jack Brass jumped in, soon it appears we are moving to three (that reads like we are expecting..., no, no, I mean we are expecting another adult shooter to join us), and we are attempting to draw in other reenactors. Although we have no place to shoot, and not yet enough to be posse qualified I try to make the Nationals and the convention, which with the great group of folks in NCOWS I really enjoy. There is a posse in southern Indaina that I have had the priviledge to shoot with in the past, but they can be a dangerous and rough crowd, so I limit my involvement in such an environment. ;D

NCOWS is growing as people become aware of the joy of combining the historical aspect of the late 19th century with shooting, so get yourself a place at the bar while there is still a little room.

Welcome Al.  Lately there seems to be more of the 18th & early 19th century re-enacting people showing interest in NCOWS.  I think it's because of our recommitment to authenticity.  This might prove to be our biggest and best source for new members.

Howdy Al,

Welcome to our fire.  I think that you will find it comfortable!

Will,

I am still reenacting the early periods.  Friday I gave a talk to COHT on Field Fortifications.  Saturday I portrayed a 1840's US Topographical Engineer.  In October I will be in Marion, IN as a US Engineer of the 1812 period.

I resisted CAS until NCOWS approved the Working Cowboy class.  I'm really happy with the historical accuracy that is encouraged in NCOWS.  I agree that we are likely to draw more from the living history community.  We need to investigate where we can recruit these already historically inclined folks.

Little Al, welcome to NCOWS!  I also do 18th. Century Living History, and I'm trying to branch out into some pre-1840 stuff as well...:)

Little Al,

Welcome to NCOWS!! A lot of us came from reenacting the 18th century and like myself still do (check out my avatar) ...you'll fit just fine. If you already have a place to shoot up there, you might want to think about forming a posse to get it started...its not that hard...and it just takes three people...it'll grow from there. One suggestion if you decide to start your own posse...find like minded individuals that think like you do.  Glad to have you.. ;D ;D
