New and with questions
« on: February 10, 2007, 04:01:34 PM »
Hi folks. I 'm the proud owner of a new Cimarron 1851 Richards-Mason. I've shot about 70 rounds of various makes of low velocity factory ammo through it. the firing pin is piercing through the primer. I hate to send it in just for that. I think I should be able to stone it smoth and reduce the length a tad. Any thoughts? Also interested in your opinion of the Lyman 310 loading tool. Thanks!

Howdy seanfidheall,
That's a fine shootin' iron ya got there, I have four of them myself  :)

Mine pierced primers as well, and you are correct in your thoughts to reduce the length and sharpness a bit.  Just be careful and don't take off too much.  Once you get them to the right length you should have no more problems with the firing pins, which are a different design than the '72 Opentop firing pins which sometimes need to be replaced.  A lighter hammer spring may also help, plus will make the action feel better.

Good luck.
