Howdy,

I just talked to Tammy today, and she said the Infantry Rifles 56-50 Spencers are in, and may be shipped out to those who bought them next week.  I will be getting mine, and will keep everyone posted.

No bayonet are planned, but I wonder if a Sharps bayonet might not work. There is a military antique store by where I work, and I plan on trying every single spike baynot they have <ggg>

I can't wait!!!!!!

Be sure to tell us if it has the saddle ring & bar.  :(

Gawd, I hope not!!! who the heck would want a saddle ring on a 30" barreled rifle???

I see it now... a rifle like that hanging out of the stirups on some poor mare...

What Would John Wayne Do?

I have seen photos of a Wilson Brigade Spencer Rifle with an added carbine sling ring. The "bar" was from a saddle staple and ring was also a saddle part.

   Greetings!

Well, Gents! I swept all of my left-over holiday money plus my gift-cheque from Dad into a pile... Called Cimarron & my FFL buddies, and... I've got a Spencer Infantry Rifle heading for California!!! It also looks like I'll have plenty left over for a steamer-trunk of Starline brass: if it doesn't like my shortened .50-70 brass.

The infantry rifle we received last week has the sling ring and bar.

If it weren't for this glaringly outward "flaw" I would buy one.  :'(  Just my two cents worth. I personally believe Taylor's could have prevented this by putting their foot down. Cimmaron did it with the initial 1860 RM conversions & the incorrect barrel length & breech cone. Oh well.

Apache Jim

Having had about a dozen of the carbines through the shop in the past month I noticed the rifle serial number fell closely inbetween that of two carbines, only a last number or two off.  The barrel had a different serial number than the receiver.  I suppose what has happened is that rifle barrels and forearms are being fitted to carbine receivers which is why you have the ring and bar assembly on the rifles.  The addition of the ring and bar is what kept me from ordering one for myself.

Howdy to the camp.

I have seen photos of Civil War carbines that were re-barreled post-war, into rifles.  They still had the staple and ring.  Also, someone mentioned that Wilder's men put staples and rings on their rifles.

Just my two cent's worth.  If we can shoot carbines in .44 Russian, .45 Schofield, 44-40, and 56-50 centerfire instead of 56-50 rimfire, I think we can forgive a staple on a rifle, especially since this was done to some carbines after the Civil War, and therefore has historical basis.

I personally know of a re-barreled carbine to rifle ,circa 1865-6 with the plate intact & staple removed.
It's in the collection of a friend who owned a Dept. store and had one of the most complete CW arms collections in private hand I've had the pleasure of seeing.

If it offends ye.. pluck it out  ... that would be correct .

Is there more than one model of Italian Spencer Rifle in 56-50?

Apache Jim

None that they have made dealers aware of.

Then I'm really confused!?

I thought that Cimarron had had these rifles for some time.  I thought that because a few days ago I called and asked.  But I just called them again, it is the carbines that they have in stock.  Apparently they are NOT going to be carrying the rifles.

Either I'm getting old and the memory is going or whomever I talked to at Cimarron the last time just got it wrong.

One question.  Is Taylor's the sole importer.  If so the Cimarron would be buying their guns from Taylor's.  Or are both Taylor's and Cimarron importing these guns separate from each other?

Major 2

In a conversation with Tammy Loy in Winchester, while I was working on G&G ,Taylor was the sole importer.
Now that may have changed in the last two years.

you asked "Is there more than one model of Italian Spencer Rifle in 56-50?"

Isn't Romano a Italian name  ;)  (you didn't say Imported Italian )  ;D

but at over $4500 a copy   ??? ....fat chance for me   ::)

   Greetings!

I thought that Cimarron had the rifles, too... Now I've got an order with Taylor's, and I'm on a waiting list; for how long...?

Until last fall, Cimarron was the sole importer, and had an exclusive  agreement with Armi Sport.  They and Ken at Ten-X did all the research, and work up for the 56-50 (modern).  Last year, Armi-sport violated the agreement and started selling to Cimarron,  and this year to EMF.  At this time, Cimarron is just getting .56-50 Carbines (at least last time I talke to Mike Harvey).  EMF is getting 44-40 (soon) and .56-50 carbines only.  Tammy at Taylor's is the only one getting the Infantry rifles at this time.  There have been two small shipments, all went out to back orders.  I got mine from the second shipment.

"I have seen photos of a Wilson Brigade Spencer Rifle with an added carbine sling ring. The "bar" was from a saddle staple and ring was also a saddle part"

This was a popular modification in Wilder's Lightning Brigade. I have seen three or four of their Spencers with saddle rings made from a coach strap staple screwed to the stock wrist with a leadstrap ring for the sling. The saddle has three coachstraps and you only really need two, and it has two leadstrap rings, of which you only need one.

I even got to shoot one of the rifles. It had been carried by Henry Salmons, of Co. A, 123rd Ill. What a treat!

Typo, I believe - imagine he meant "... started selling to Taylor's ..."
