Well, wise or foolish, I "won" a GunBroker bid for an Armi Sport Spencer carbine in 56-50 (I have a hard time saying I "won" anything when it's about to cost me a bunch of money).   I don't want to mention the price in case it was on the "foolish" side, although you could find it if you searched completed auctions.  I decided to risk a used one in part because of the (slightly) lower price and because this one looked so good in the photos.  The wood looks particularly nice compared to photos I've seen of other guns.  The screw slots all look straight, so I doubt it has been disassembled by someone who didn't know what he was doing.  Hopefully I won't inherit someone else's headache.  I don't mind a little light gunsmithing though, as long as I can eventually figure it out.  I find it all pretty satisfying.

This kind of money comes slow to me, so now I have to start saving for reloading and casting supplies.  It may be a few months before I can actually shoot the gun, so I may not know for a while how well it functions.

I have a couple of molds from Accurate Molds and I really like them, so I am leaning towards Tom's mold designed for Spencers.  Is anyone using one of those?

It looks like most places are backordered on Starline brass right now too, which is fine since I don't have the money in my shooting account, but hopefully they are back in stock before too long.

In the meantime, I'm voraciously reading everything I can find.  Thanks!

Cool Creek Griff,

Are you going to join my Spencer Shooting Society (SSS)?  If you need help with your Spencer then SSS will be here to help.  No obligation to join on your part other than to have an interest in Spencers, which you now have.

Just Email me that you want to join . . . fsgrand2@fairpoint.net.

Thanks,

Quotefirst the Henry and now a Spencer

Yes, I've been blessed recently.  I worked some overtime for the Henry.

We had a 1964 Aloha camping trailer, which was kind of deteriorating at our house.  A neighbor kept offering to buy it, but I was reluctant because of all the great memories of camping when the kids were small.  I had kind of thought of fixing it up and camping again now that they're pretty much grown and gone, but it was going to take a lot of work.  My wife wanted it gone and finally convinced me to sell by saying that I could use the money for a new gun, hence the Spencer.  It usually takes me about 2 years to build up enough money for a gun purchase...
