Good morning, I have been looking at an Armi Sport Spencer cabine in 45 colt and wanted opinions about this variation. I currently load my 45 colt with smokeless for plinking. I currently have 2 Armi Sport muzzleloaders with no problems at all but I lave heard of loading issues with the Spencer.I don't want to set myself up for failure or disappointment. Have they corrected the loading issues and will it survive on a diet of smokeless cowboy loads? Or am I worrying needlessly. Thanks,Southpaw

Hi Southpaw,

I use trailboss in my 56-50 with outstanding results.

I also use Trail Boss for smokeless 56-50 cartridges - and couldn't be happier. I don't know anything about the 45 Colt Spencer's, but have been daydreaming about picking one up. I know my ASM 56-50 was very finicky until I generously radiused the leading edge of the breech-block. Never had a problem after that.

I've been running mine for 8 years now using standard level (250 grain bullet at about 1000fps in the rifle) with W-231 or Unique and the rifle runs just fine.  I use it as my main match rifle in SASS cowboy matches and these days it runs without a hitch:  very stylish and lots of fun, just not very fast.  Actually as I've gotten the hang of it I have gotten considerably smoother and faster than when I started.  There is definitely a learning curve here - the more you run it the better you get.  (Yes I do have a firm grasp of the obvious!)
