My HOG W.B rig is ready
« on: January 01, 2011, 11:13:21 AM »
Hi there.
Now is my HOG Wild Bunch rig ready. I lined the holster and belt with suede, dyed with mahogany. then I used super shene, but it is a bit too shiny for me, looks like plastic  :-X Will use Tan Kote next time, still learning  ;)
I had thought to use metal lining on the holster but had no good shears, so it may be on my next rig maby, find it hard to cut the metal  >:(

Nice work Bob, if you want a softer more satin finish to seal your leather, try Bag-Kote, you can dilute it with water to get the effect you want, or just use Skidmores Leather Cream, it will protect/condition and give you a natural rich sheen on you leather, you can also use it over other finishes, it's the last thing I do on all my leather pieces. if you haven't tried this, give it a shot, I think you will be happy with the results. :-\ ??? ::) ;D

Try cutting the Tan - Kote with rubbing alcohol, you can cut it down to a softer sheen try two parts alcohol to one part TK,  and go from there until you get what you want.

Very nice, BB. The tooling and design is great. Good work putting it together. Like you, I also prefer a more subtle finish. Can that be cleaned off with alcohol and another finish put on?

I've used both of the above but now I use mostly Skidmores.

Bob, yes, it is used for a number of things, we know it here as rubbing alcohol, it's used for aching muscles and cooling down a temperature, you can take much of the gloss off by rubbing it down with alcohol isopropanol 70-95%
, I've had to do this several times when first trying different products and finding out it was just toooooo shinny for my taste, some like the gloss look, for me I prefer a softer more natural sheen, as Johnny McCrae points out, you can use the Skidmores as your finish coat also, over an oil finish or just by itself, I like to use an oil either Neatsfoot or EVOO to replenish the leather, before I use Skidmores.

Once again Bob you've pulled one out of the hat. You did an excellet job on this rig. Your mag pouches turned out great. Are you hand forming the leather around the mags? I'm curious as to how you get the stamping on those; I've been messing around wiith mag holders for a while, but I've not be able to get any stamping on the pieces.

Did I mention that you did a nice job on this rig? :D

Thanks, JD

JD... I cut out both pieces and stamp the front .. Then I dye them, sew them together and burnich the edges .. After that I wet the leather and put the mags in which is wrapped in plastic bags, then I let it dry over night .. The plastic bags also helps to make the pounches bigger so it's easy to pull the mags

Hope it helps..
