Sgt Ryan

I received word today that my friend Boston John Doucette passed away.  He was a Life Member of SASS, a poet, and pretty good with a shootin iron.  BJD was a Christian man who loved his wife Betty and held his friends dear.

For those of you that knew him he always had a joke and a kind word.  He could be the voice of reason in a room full of crazies, or the biggest crazy on a room full of crazies.

BJD, aka: Dave Nelson had a massive heart attack.  He was 56 years of age.

I will miss him.

Del, I am sad to hear about Boston John.  I got aquainted with him on the Frontier Spot several years ago. We shared some experiences as cops.  I enjoyed his dry humor and his poetry.  He was too young to leave us.  He will be sorely missed.

Howdy Doody

Well, I have read the notice on other boards and it still has me in shock. It was BJD that emailed me a long email to assure me when my/our good friend Gunny Sackett passed on a number of years ago and now I have to deal with a great pard like BJD gone too. I'll miss him very much. I am saying prayers for his wife, family and friends. It was much too soon.

From The Green River Star, Green River, WY:

David Scott Nelson

Published: Wednesday, July 2, 2008 6:07 PM MDT
David Scott Nelson, 56, of Green River passed away June 23, 2008, at his home.

A longtime resident of Green River, Nelson passed away following a sudden illness.

He was born March 18, 1952, in Stoneham, Mass., the son of Albert J. and Helene Doucette Nelson.

Nelson attended schools in Arlington, Mass., and graduated from high school in 1970.

He married Elizabeth Y. Talmadge on June 23, 1984 in Amsterdam, Mo.

Nelson, the son of a railroad engineer, was employed by Union Pacific Railroad as a relief yard master. He often said he couldn't believe he was paid to wear bib overalls and ride trains.

He was a member of the Evangelical Free Church in Rock Springs and served on the Elder Board for several years.

He was a member of SASS, founder of Prayer Posse, an endowment member or NRA and a cowboy poet.

His interests included hunting, shooting guns and spending time with family, friends and his dogs.

Survivors include his father Albert J. Nelson of East Hampstead, N.H.; wife Elizabeth Nelson; one sister Judith N. Pichette and husband Guy of East Hampstead, N.H.: and one niece Jennifer Pichette of East Hampstead, N.H.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

A memorial service will take place Thursday at the Rock Springs Evangelical Free Church, 125 Firestone Road in Rock Springs.

Pastor Richard Carlson will officiate.

When Gunny Sackett died, I put up a request for BJD to write something to help us get through our grief, from the time I posted it, until he had a masterpiece posted was less than four hours, and it helped all of us deal with it, God I will miss this man...

I don't have the words.
I need to get a glass of scotch and read some of his poetry.
Maybe it'll sink in later.

Godspeed, my friend.

Nor do I have the words to express my shock and sadness at this news.  He had not been very active on the boards I frequent, of late, and I always was happy to see his posts.

He was one heck of a Pard, and will be sorely missed

Thanks Slim, for BJD's obit. He & I did a couple deals through the years. Either via the Wire or The Spot. When we did finally start talking on the phone,I really enjoyed shooting the breeze with him.I remember how he beat out a bunch of young fellers for the U.P. job. I was so glad & proud of him ,he showed that we might be used, but not used up.
The world is a lessor place without him. Happy Trails, Pard.
He shouldn't ought'a decorated his saloon with my friend.
